HOW DO I START A CHAPTER?

 

There are a few basic steps to follow when starting a new chapter.

 

Step 1: Prepare to Apply

 

  1. Select a chapter president. The president will supervise the chapter—its operation, mission, and other duties.
  2. Appoint a six-member board of directors. The board meets at least once a month to recruit new members, review and revise chapter procedures and develop fundraising and charity events.

 

Step 2: Complete a New Chapter Request Form

Step 3: Get Ready to Begin

 

The national office will notify you by email once your chapter is approved, and you’ll receive welcome materials. Once your chapter is approved, you will have access to the ACHI WSWA Chapters Handbook which includes Chapter Bylaws and Policies.

 

WHO CAN START A CHAPTER?

 

Any professional member with a history of leading others can request to start a chapter. You must complete the request form and submit your resume for consideration. You do not need to have experience as a chapter president; however, experience serving on a board is preferred.

 

WHERE CAN A NEW CHAPTER BE LOCATED?

 

The location where you wish to become established must generally be at least a 30 minute drive from the nearest ACHI WSWA established chapter.

 

CAN I START A CHAPTER IF I'VE NEVER ATTENDED A CHAPTER MEETING?

 

Absolutely! We’ll work with you every step of the way to help you through the steps necessary to be a chapter, and help you to understand what a Chapter must do to successfully grow.

 

IS THERE TRAINING AVAILABLE?

 

Yes, every year ACHI WSWA holds an annual conference. Each conference will be mid May in Atlanta, GA. A workshop is offered during the National Conference on how to start a new chapter. Guidelines and mentoring is also provided.

 

WHAT COST ARE INITIALLY INVOLVED?

 

To start a chapter all participants are required to pay the annual membership dues to become members. Currently there are no additional fees required; however, this is subject to change.
